OBJECTIVES

WCI's mission and overall objective is to protect whales and the oceans they live in. The Whale Conservation Institute is uniquely positioned to meet this objective.

WCI believes that conservation measures will only be adopted if there is enough awareness on the part of government leaders and the general public about the gravity of the problems we have been describing here. To raise awareness, education is of course a first priority. But careful scientific research is also required if we are to generate convincing reasoning. Over the years we have established ongoing programs through which we hope to accomplish our objective. Since this proposal is one for a grant of operating funds rather than for a specific program, a brief description of our major areas of activity follows.
