VOYAGE ITINERARY
Current Leg : Indian Ocean (May 2002 - August 2002)
Iain Kerr describes the journey for The Voyage of the Odyssey:
"We will be starting in San Diego sailing first to the Galapagos Islands we know so well from Charles Darwin's work. Then we will be heading out to the Central Pacific, the Marquesas, Christmas Island (Kiritimati), Kiribati and Nauru.
After that, the Papua New Guinea and Western Australia. Then head out across the Indian Ocean to the Cocos (Keeling) Islands (Australia),
Diego Garcia, Seychelles, Mauritius, and of course Madagascar which abounds in whales and will be one of the most interesting areas we visit. From Madagascar we will head up further into the Indian Ocean to Trincomalee, Sri Lanka.
"Our course will then take us through Oman and the Suez Canal. In the Meditteranean, we will do some work in Greece and in the Ionian Sea. After we pass Gibraltar we will work in Madeira and the Azores. Further down south into the Atlantic to the Cape Verde Islands, then further south to St. Peter and St. Paul Rocks and then off east of Brazil to the island of Fernando de Noronha. From there we will head to the mouth of the Amazon and Belem. We will then head up around Central America, Venezuela, the Grenadines, across the Caribbean and through the Panama Canal.
"Five years, it's going to be pretty exciting!"
