Toothed whales

suborder: Odontoceti (Greek, ondontos - tooth; ketos - whale)

These whales are distinguished by teeth and the single external nostril or blowhole. There are several species in this group, from the sperm whale (as in Moby Dick) to the porpoises and dolphins, some of which have adapted to freshwater habitation.
